Names names names… Oh this topic might be sensitive but we have to talk and learn. Ones there’s life there’s always an opportunity to learn. ” Live and Learn.”
In the olden days even in the Bible Names meant something to the parents. Is either what you were going through in life when pregnant or you want your kid to bare a name after a family member you lost or even a Saint name.
When it comes to naming our kids we have to make sure the name won’t be a name that will redirect their lives for worse, but for better things. I know Christians name their kids after Saints( Catholics especially) or after their grandparent the kid reminds them of.
Kids are blessings in our lives weather we like it or not. LOL. But seriously we have to take it serious when it comes to naming our kids. You don’t want them to grow up and ask you what in the world were you thinking giving me that name.
Nowadays millennium parents name their kids after a super star they like or a person they are a fan of(nothing wrong with that, whatever makes one happy I guess). But did you consult your Bible or Dictionary to look up the name and see the meaning ? Don’t be mad at me but this is necessary because if your parents can give you an awesome name and you turned out good and you loved the name why won’t you do the same for your kids?
Name surely follow people till their old age. In the Bible Jacob represented his name very well and what happened. He stole his brother’s(Esau) birth right from his Father(Isaac) and run away… well with the help of his mother(Rebekah). And he repented and knew the meaning of his name and what he has done. He decided to reconcile with God and his brother. The first thing he did was to change his name from Jacob to Israel. And look at Israel now one of the biggest Nation. Just by Jacob changing his name to Israel( the 12 tribes of Israel). Genesis 27 :34-40.
Just to show how effective names are.
Like me for example My native name is Ngozi.. which means Blessing and my English name is Judith…which means Strength/Brave and Strong. My Son answers his English name and I call him his native name too. So one day someone asked me why do I allow my Son to answer his English name instead of his native name in this country(U.S.A that is) . My answer was.. The English name meant something to me so every time people call him or I call him it reminds me of something ( which is a good thing) and the name reincarnate in him too. By the way his name is Emmanuel( look up the meaning I won’t tell you…LOL). Then you know the reason I prefer to call him that instead of his native name. To be clear I call him his native name too which he knows. I call him depending on what kind of trouble he got himself into.
Like when we’re small I don’t know if anyone can relate. Your parent always have a pet name for you, but ones your behind is in trouble and you hear your full name. Then start praying you will get out of that trouble you put yourself into. My pet name is Ng or Ngo, but ones I hear Ngozichukwuka I know there is trouble in paradise.
Am not saying you should change your kids name, but let them know the meaning and why you chose that, too. So they won’t grow up and do a name change that;s a lot of paper work. LOL.
Thanks for Reading and Remain Blessed also Remember to be Happy. If you can’t due to circumstance ask God to grant you a grateful heart.
